I saw the towering snowbanks
on the side of our yard roads
a bright yellow hazard tape
around the cold white walls
a bit loose
waving in the wind
I looked up
and there
far away
behind the frozen lake
was a terracotta colored church
amidst the city’s charcoal silhouette
and then the firs, firs, firs,
one taller than another
as if miraculously
placed on the ground
by an invisible hand
the trees started moving
like vehicles
bringing the cityscape
closer to me
